Alternative products in the category Duchesse:
Duchesse satin (or peau de soie) is the beauty queen of silk fabrics. It is a perennial favorite for bridal and evening gowns but is also a knock-out in little black dresses, cocktail numbers, corsets, skirts, and jackets. Duchesse is a sturdy, tightly woven fabric with a lustrous, pearly shine (the back is matte) that holds its form beautifully.
Duchesse is stiffer lengthwise than crosswise. Arranging your pattern pieces lengthwise will make a sturdier garment while laying your pieces crosswise will give you more drape.
This duchesse is woven of silk and polyester. It retains the shine of pure silk duchesse but is sturdier and a bit heavier.
With its unique qualities, duchesse can make a simple, full skirt into an event. It is so popular for bridal fashions that it is sometimes called bridal satin. Take it up a notch by combining with satin organza, chiffon, lace, or tulle. If you need something with the same shine, but more drape, have a look at our light- and mid-weight satins.
Care
We recommend dry cleaning this fabric at a reliable dry cleaner. In our tests of how to wash silk this fabric stood up to gentle hand washing but lost some of its stiffness. If you risk hand washing, use lukewarm water and a delicate detergent for woolens; do not wring or squeeze dry; block dry on a flat surface. Dry iron on the back on the lowest setting. Avoid water droplets.
The type of defect present in seconds fabric is always listed in the product parameters. Usually they are minor flaws and defects that occur only in part of the role (typically at the beginning or end). That's why our discounted seconds usually include only smaller pieces, not entire rolls.
The fabrics in our core inventory, seasonal collections and limited editions are from repeated production cycles that we have quality-tested – given proper care their colors should not bleed. Fabrics that are on offer while supplies last are one-off products that have not been individually tested. We recommend doing a sample test.
If we recommend pre-shrinking for a particular fabric, we generally say so in the product description. As a rule, pre-shrinking is needed for linen, cotton, and rayon, but for finer fabrics (light rayon, Tencel and modal) proceed with care – don't use hot water or a hot iron, simply launder the fabric the way you will be laundering the completed garment.
Yes. If you plan to pick up the goods in person at our store in Prague, you can put them on hold through the e-shop – there's a link just below the price on the product page. We will hold items for you for one week.
No. We only accept retail orders through the e-shop. This eliminates situations where someone else orders the last of an item while your order is still sitting in our inbox or lies jotted on a bit of paper by the phone. By purchasing online, you are putting an immediate hold on the product. Of course, you can always call or write to us if you need help making your selection.
